Every year I like to grow some garlic in the vegie garden, but this year we are also joining in with Transition Town Maroondah's Garlic Festival in December. We have around 10 plants, which will only be enough for a few months in our household, but we are happy to share some for the festival.
We planted cloves in April/May. They sprouted readily and are doing nicely. Here they are at around 4 months old... …

Recently myself and my family visited Heronswood - the HQ of The Digger's Club in Dromana. We had perfect weather, and a fabulous picnic (thanks Patrick). It was simply wonderful, the gardens were so inspiring.…

On the last of 2010, a hot gust of wind sent our 20m tall Liquidamber tree crashing into the back garden. We were very thankful that no one was hurt.
Amazingly it missed the house, bungalow and fences, but it did take out the washing line, trampoline and garden gate.
So…

I think I'm addicted to Beswick's Honey
Hi Radhika,
Thanks for the invitation to join the general group but I am still blocked. I think Jane needs to change the privacy settings on the group before I will be allowed to join.
cheers,
Jo
Thanks for adding me. It was great to meet you on Sunday and see the demonstration of the Rocket Stove. So interesting. I love the honey we got then as well. Very inspirational
PS Just saw your garlic notes and photo - fantastic! Your garlic looks tall. We have about 70 plants, but I suspect some of them will be quite small. I was weeding them yesterday and I accidentally dug one of the smaller plants up and it only seemed to have one clove at the bottom - not a whole hand. It will be interesting to see what the others are like. We planted ours later than you - probably early June I think.
I'd like to hang lots of garlic up at the Christmas party with beautiful big labels naming the grower and maybe the variety of garlic if people know. Maybe people could bring it to display even if they are going to keep it for their own use. It could be inspiring for others to grow some next year, and add to the general festivity. What do you reckon?
Hi Radhika - you asked about the picture of the lambs on the Convergence event... well...? call it desperate for an image! Lambs converging... um... well... yes... If I can find something better I will change it.
Anyway, would you believe it, we forgot to buy our honey last night! I hope that I'll be able to drop in one day this week. Will ring first. Cheers, Jan.
PS I meant to say a saucepan of water of course!

Hi Radhika - thanks so much for replying to my message to garlic growers. You are the only one who has!! I hope your garlic is going well. Sandra H has written a fantastic garlic diary and will be posting it soon, so you keep an eye out for that. My garlic is going ok, especially since I added some dolomite lime and gypsum. By the way THE HONEY IS SUPERB! We put the jar into a saucepan and heated it up until the honey melted and you wouldn't know it had ever been crystalline. It stayed melted right to the end and we have now done the second jar. Thank you!!

My apologies for Dec 19th - family "do" at Anglesea. Sorry to miss the last get-together for 2010.
Glad your dahlias are going well.

It was fantastic! The guys who ran it worked really well together as a team - the info was so good, and seeing Kim's garden was awe-inspiring. Can't wait to go to the second one! We've actually got some tomatoes planted here in a raised bed and today I got some basil, zucchini and parsley to plant. I'm so glad to have more time for the garden now.
